Chrysler is learning how to produce a better automobile with better efficiency in their factories thanks to their new Italian owners, Fiat.
Compared with last year, productivity in all of Chrysler's assembly plants is expected to improve 10 percent, operating costs will decline 8 percent and injuries will decrease 30 percent, Scott Garberding, Chrysler's senior vice president of manufacturing, said this month at the CAR Management Briefing Seminars.
Chrysler workers were trained to form teams by Fiat, analyze the assembly process and identify waste.
The teams quantify waste caused by a particular problem through "cost deployment."
